Independent game development studio Gravity Well has laid off the majority of its staff, consisting of over 40 developers, after losing its funding. GamesIndustry.biz and WN Hub both reported that the studio was forced to make the cuts after failing to secure immediate financial backing. [1][2]

According to GamesIndustry.biz, leadership at the studio stated in a post on LinkedIn that Gravity Well lost its funding during the summer of 2026. Studio leaders Drew McCoy, Jon Shiring, and Mon Saetern confirmed that they are still actively searching for a new partner to support the company. [1]

GamesIndustry.biz reported that studio management informed employees about the financial situation as it developed. Staff members were aware that layoffs were possible if new funding could not be secured in time. [1]
