The Walt Disney Company is not pursuing an acquisition of video game developer Epic Games, according to comments made by Disney executive Dana Walden. Game World Observer and IGN reported that Walden, who serves as president and chief creative officer, addressed the takeover rumors during an interview with Bloomberg. Walden stated that while the two companies previously had serious conversations regarding an investment and equity stake, a complete acquisition is not a strategy Disney is entertaining right now. Rumors surfaced earlier in the year suggesting that Disney leadership would be open to buying Epic Games if the studio ever sought a buyer, Game World Observer reported. While a full purchase is off the table for the time being, CGMagazine reported that Disney still has further collaborations in the works with the developer. [1][5]
Epic Games was founded in 1991 by Tim Sweeney and is headquartered in Cary, North Carolina. The studio is best known for developing the battle royale game Fortnite, which has earned billions in revenue, as well as the Unreal Engine game development software and the Epic Games Store digital storefront.
