Final Fantasy 7 Revelation director Naoki Hamaguchi stated that he did his best to advocate for a full disc release of the upcoming game. According to VGC and IGN, Square Enix decided that the physical edition will require a download across all platforms. VGC reported that the game is expected to be around 200GB in size, which prevented it from fitting entirely on disc. [1][2][5][6]

The decision marks a departure from previous entries in the remake trilogy. VGC noted that Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth both shipped on two discs. Hamaguchi explained to Radio Times, as cited by Eurogamer and IGN, that he retains a personal attachment to physical media as the video game industry moves toward an all-digital future. [1][2][5]

Final Fantasy is a role playing game franchise created by Hironobu Sakaguchi and owned by Japanese publisher Square Enix. Hamaguchi also told GamesRadar+ that making each title in the remake trilogy a complete experience was a non negotiable requirement from the start of development. [3][7][8]
