Gen.G defeated regional rivals Hanwha Life Esports on Saturday, 24 October, to secure their second victory in the League of Legends Worlds 2026 Swiss Stage. Esports Insider and EGamersWorld both reported that the match put the reigning League Champions Korea, or LCK, title holders into the promotion pool with a 2-0 record. The Swiss Stage is a tournament format where teams with identical win-loss records play each other until they reach three wins to advance or three losses to be eliminated. A third victory will send Gen.G directly to the Knockout Stage. [1][8][12]

The Round 2 match began at 23:10 UK time on Saturday. Esports Insider reported that Gen.G held the higher seed, granting them first pick in the draft phase. Citing GosuGamers, Esports Insider added that Gen.G finished the game with a 22-7 kill lead and established a 16,000 gold advantage over Hanwha Life before destroying the enemy Nexus to secure victory. Hanwha Life entered the tournament as the reigning Mid-Season Invitational champions, an annual international tournament held between the first and second domestic splits of the competitive season. Gen.G is a global esports organisation headquartered in Santa Monica, Seoul, and Shanghai, and was valued by Forbes at 250 million dollars in May 2022. [1][10]

Gen.G now stand one match victory away from securing their place in the playoff Knockout Stage of the League of Legends World Championship. [1]
