Google Play is introducing a collection of new social and discovery features for mobile and PC games, GamesIndustry.biz, WN Hub, and GameDev.net reported. The updates include a personalized Game Finder tool, timed competitive Sprints, and clip-sharing capabilities through its Sidekick overlay. According to GamesIndustry.biz and blog.google, the platform is also expanding Quests, offering lower service fees to top titles, and broadening its reach on PC. [1][2][3][4]

The changes were detailed in a blog post written by Google Play vice president and general manager Sam Bright, alongside a separate post aimed at developers, GamesIndustry.biz reported. Google stated that its You tab has reached over 250 million monthly active users. Furthermore, GamesIndustry.biz noted that the platform connects more than 700 million gamer profiles globally. [1][3]

Google Play is a digital distribution platform operated by Google that serves as the official app store for Android devices, ChromeOS, and PC, having originally launched as the Android Market in October 2008 before rebranding in March 2012. Mobilegamer.biz and Qazinform both reported that the store is integrating additional curation tools alongside artificial intelligence features as part of this major system update. [5][6][7][10]

Google indicated that these features aim to drive smarter user discovery, facilitate deeper engagement, and help developers expand their business growth on the store, blog.google reported. Lower service fee tiers will be applied to select standout titles to help developers scale their projects on the platform. [1][3]
