Independent studio Maddy Makes Games has delisted its platforming titles Celeste and TowerFall from Xbox digital stores. GamesIndustry.biz, Eurogamer, and IGN all reported that the developer pulled both games from sale on Microsoft platforms as part of a political boycott. According to GamesIndustry.biz, players first noticed the removal of the games on 29 October 2026. [1][2][8]

Developer Maddy Thorson confirmed the deliberate removal in a statement on social media platform Bluesky. Eurogamer and GamesIndustry.biz both reported that Thorson stated the games were delisted specifically to support the pro-Palestinian Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement, known as BDS. The movement aims to protest companies linked to or supporting the government of Israel. [1][2]

GamesIndustry.biz reported that Maddy Makes Games joins several other independent developers who have recently taken similar action on Microsoft platforms. Other studios participating in the movement by removing their games from Xbox include the creators behind Luck be a Landlord, Ice Water, and All Will Rise. [1]
