Swedish developer Embark Studios is adapting its multiplayer shooters, Arc Raiders and The Finals, into film and television projects. GamesIndustry.biz, Engadget and Game Developer all reported that Chernin Entertainment, the film and TV division of The North Road Company, will act as the lead producer on the adaptations for both titles. Variety first reported the deal. [1][2][3][5][8]
The projects aim to expand both properties into transmedia franchises. GamesIndustry.biz quoted Nexon executive chairman and Embark founder Patrick Söderlund, who stated the agreement represents the next step in creating deeply integrated transmedia experiences. Engadget noted that Chernin Entertainment president David Ready described the games as ambitious global intellectual properties with major potential across film and television. [1][2]
Both games are multiplayer titles developed by Sweden-based Embark Studios, a subsidiary of Nexon. The Finals is a free-to-play shooter, while Arc Raiders is a third-person extraction shooter released on PlayStation 5, Windows and Xbox Series X/S. According to Game Developer, Arc Raiders previously won Best Multiplayer Game at The Game Awards 2025 and has sold 14 million units. [1][3][10]
The production deal comes as Embark Studios continues to update Arc Raiders. Eurogamer reported that the developer is offering a four-day free-to-play trial to coincide with the release of the game's Frozen Trail update. PCGamesN separately reported that Embark Studios is replacing artificial intelligence voice work in the game with full motion capture and real human performances. [6][7]
