The video game industry recorded 54 merger and acquisition transactions totalling 57.8 billion dollars in the third quarter of 2026, GamesIndustry.biz reported, citing data from investment bank Aream & Co. [1]

The total volume was driven by the completion of a 55 billion dollar leveraged buyout of publisher Electronic Arts on August 5, according to GamesIndustry.biz. Content-focused mergers and acquisitions accelerated during the quarter, with 18 control deals for developers and publishers valued at over 100 million dollars year-to-date. [1]

As FTMQ Gaming reported earlier, Electronic Arts was acquired by a private equity consortium that includes Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners. The purchase was financed with 20 billion dollars in leveraged debt borrowed from JPMorgan, leading bondholders to allege default and demand extra cash on previously issued debt. [3]

Public market revenue in the sector jumped 122 percent year-on-year to reach 1.3 billion dollars during the quarter, GamesIndustry.biz reported. [1]
