Grand Theft Auto 6 launch trailer lacks PS5 upscaler technology

Analysis by technology experts at Digital Foundry indicates that the launch trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 does not use Sony Interactive Entertainment's new QSSR upscaling software on the base PlayStation 5 console. Push Square reported that there is no evidence the technology is implemented in the trailer for the game from developer Rockstar Games. [1]

Sony introduced the QSSR upscaler earlier this month to bring a version of the PlayStation 5 Pro console's PSSR image upscaling technology to standard PlayStation 5 hardware, according to Push Square. Upscaling technology uses algorithms to boost image resolution and frame rates without requiring additional hardware power. [1]

Push Square reported that QSSR is currently incorporated only into the Sony first party titles Marvel's Wolverine and Ghost of Yotei. While Sony plans to make the tool available to third party developers, Digital Foundry does not believe it appears in the latest trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6. [1]

The finding comes as preorders for Grand Theft Auto 6 are live on PlayStation 5 and Xbox consoles, according to Mashable. CNET separately reported that demand for Grand Theft Auto 6 is depleting PlayStation 5 Pro console stock a month before the game releases. [2][3]
