Sony is offering its new NW-WM1ZM3 Walkman audio player for pre-order at a price of 5,899 dollars, Push Square reported. The high-end device features a gold-plated oxygen-free copper chassis that has been precision-machined. Sony aims to ship the new portable player in January. [1]

The Walkman brand was originally introduced by Sony in 1979 as a portable cassette player before expanding into other portable audio products. Since 2011, Sony has used the Walkman brand exclusively for digital flash memory players as smartphones replaced dedicated music devices. [1][2]

The announcement comes as high-end gaming hardware faces similar pricing pressure, as FTMQ Gaming reported earlier. Retailers including GameStop have listed used PlayStation 5 Pro consoles for as much as 1,499.99 dollars, which is up to 66 percent above the manufacturer suggested retail price, due to declining stock.
