Video game developer Jagex has announced RuneScape 4 during its RuneFest event in Birmingham, UK. VGC, MMORPG.com, PC Gamer, PCGamesN and IGN all reported that the new project is in active early development. The upcoming title will serve as a fourth major game in the franchise alongside RuneScape, Old School RuneScape, and Dragonwilds, according to VGC and PCGamesN. [1][2][3][4][5][7]

The new game is being built using Epic Games' Unreal Engine, VGC, IGN, and TechPowerUp reported. A teaser trailer shown at RuneFest confirmed that the story takes place in the fantasy world of Gielinor during its Sixth Age, starting in the region of Ashenfal.
