Developer Jagex announced at RuneFest 2026 in Birmingham, UK, that a fourth RuneScape massively multiplayer online role-playing game is in early development. PCGamesN, VGC, IGN and MMORPG.com all reported that the project, currently using the temporary title RuneScape 4, will sit as a fourth main line of the franchise alongside RuneScape, Old School RuneScape and Dragonwilds. According to VGC and IGN, the upcoming game is built using Unreal Engine. VGC reported that a teaser trailer shown at the event confirmed the setting as the world of Gielinor during the Sixth Age. The narrative begins in Ashenfal and takes place years after the events of Dragonwilds, with PC Gamer reporting that the project originally began as an expansion to that title. [2][3][5]
Alongside the new game, Jagex outlined upcoming updates for its existing title RuneScape 3. According to MMORPG.com and GameTrader.SG, a relaunch billed as RuneScape Reignited will launch on December 2.
