Developer and publisher Jagex announced a new massively multiplayer online game tentatively named RuneScape 4 or RS4 at its RuneFest 2026 event. Gematsu, Pocket Gamer, and MMORPG.com all reported that the standalone title is currently in active development using Unreal Engine. Gematsu added that the project takes place in Gielinor, beginning in the region of Ashenfall, and remains a few years away from release without target platforms announced. PC Gamer reported that the sequel initially began as an expansion to the survival game Dragonwilds. [1][2][3][4][5][10]
Jagex also detailed major changes to its existing game lineup. RPG Site and MMORPG.com both reported that RuneScape 3 is being rebranded as RuneScape: Reignited, with MMORPG.com noting a launch date of December 2, 2026, for the relaunch. RPG Site reported that Old School RuneScape will receive skill adjustments and content drops through 2027, while Dragonwilds is scheduled for its first expansion. [1][6][7][8][9]
As FTMQ Gaming reported earlier, Jagex unveiled multi-year development roadmaps stretching through 2027 across its catalog. In addition to game updates, RPG Site reported that an animated adaptation featuring streamer Charlie White, known as MoistCr1TiKaL, is currently in development. [1][13]
