Caves of Qud expansion Diaspora launches in Steam Early Access this December

Developer Freehold Games and publisher Kitfox Games have revealed Diaspora, the first major downloadable content expansion for science-fiction roguelike RPG Caves of Qud. According to RPG Site and Rock Paper Shotgun, the expansion will launch into early access on Steam on December 9. Game Developer reported that this marks the first time an expansion has released via Steam Early Access, a store program that allows in-development games to be sold and tested with player feedback. As RPG Site and Rock Paper Shotgun reported, the expansion will add playable animals and plants, new creatures, a new weapon type, a new true kin arcology, new castes, mountable saltbacks, and improved road and river systems. Developers from Freehold Games told Rock Paper Shotgun that they chose the early access model for the complex expansion so that the player community can stress test the new features. RPG Site noted that the expansion will cost 14.99 dollars on Steam. [2][4]

Caves of Qud first began development at Freehold Games in 2007, Game Developer reported. The base game originally entered Steam Early Access in 2015 and spent roughly nine years in the program before reaching its full version 1.0 launch in 2024. In addition to PC, the base game is currently available on Nintendo Switch. [1][2]
