A homebrew developer has released Double Dragons, an unofficial free-to-play fan game for personal computers. Time Extension reported that the title acts as an alternate sequel to Technos Japan's 1987 scrolling beat 'em up game Double Dragon. The title presents itself as a variant of the 1989 release Double Dragon III: The Sacred Stones. [1]

The fan project combines stages and mechanics from the original Double Dragon releases alongside elements from other classic arcade titles. Time Extension reported that the project mashes together environments from Double Dragon with other vintage arcade games, allowing players to throw barrels at enemy thugs. [1]

Technos Japan developed the original 1987 Double Dragon arcade game before producing other arcade titles. Wikipedia notes that Technos Japan also developed and published WWF Superstars in 1989, which was the first arcade wrestling game based on the World Wrestling Federation license, followed by WWF WrestleFest in 1991.
