Developer Jagex will release RuneScape Reignited on 2 December 2026. Eurogamer, MMORPG.com, Insider Gaming, Softonic, and GameTrader.SG all reported that the new permanent mode offers a fresh start for players on the main RuneScape MMORPG, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game. The release date was revealed at the RuneFest 2026 event. [1][2][5][6][7]
Eurogamer and Softonic report that RuneScape Reignited features a brand new character type with its own separate economy and hiscores. Eurogamer added that the mode includes no paid progression, which allows players to advance through gameplay without real-money microtransactions. MMORPG.com noted that developers are framing the update as a relaunch of the classic title. [1][2][6]
During the same RuneFest 2026 event, Jagex also confirmed that a fourth RuneScape MMO is currently in development. Eurogamer and IGN reported that the studio is building the new title in Unreal Engine, while IGN noted that RuneScape 4 is the working title. PCGamesN reported that Jagex describes the project as its fourth pillar alongside Old School RuneScape and Dragonwilds. [1][3][4]
Additionally, PCGamesN and GameTrader.SG reported that Jagex announced an animated series during the festival. The show is being created in collaboration with Charlie 'MoistCr1tikal' White. [3][7]
