Nvidia has reportedly stopped manufacturing its flagship GeForce RTX 5090 consumer graphics processing unit, GamesIndustry.biz, Dexerto, and Video Games Chronicle reported. According to GamesIndustry.biz and Dexerto, the company is halting production and chip shipments for the flagship gaming GPU, including the D variants designed for the Chinese market, to reallocate manufacturing capacity toward chips for artificial intelligence. [1][2][6][8]

The details emerged from a leaked factory notification shared by leaker @hongxing2020 and initially reported by Tom's Hardware, according to GamesIndustry.biz. A second leaker, @Zed__Wang, supported the report and claimed that the GB202 processor powering the RTX 5090 will now be reserved exclusively for professional and data center hardware. GamesIndustry.biz also noted claims that the RTX 5080 24GB model will become Nvidia's top consumer graphics card. [1]

Rock Paper Shotgun and Video Games Chronicle reported that Nvidia is pivoting production away from top-tier consumer cards to focus on AI-focused RTX Pro GPUs and data center hardware. TechSpot and OC3D similarly reported that the company is prioritizing high-margin enterprise AI silicon over consumer gaming graphics cards. [3][4][5][7][8]

The GeForce RTX 50 series launched in January 2025 using Nvidia's Blackwell architecture and custom TSMC manufacturing, debuting alongside the RTX 5070 and RTX 5080 models. The RTX 5090 represented the highest performance tier in the consumer lineup, built for real-time ray tracing and advanced deep-learning tasks [13]. TechRadar reported that PC manufacturers have warned GPU prices could rise significantly following the alleged end of RTX 5090 production. [11][13]
