Nvidia Shield TV Pro Price Rises Fifty Percent to Three Hundred Dollars

Nvidia has increased the price of its Shield TV Pro set-top box by 50 percent to $299.99, despite using the same internal hardware.

Nvidia has raised the price of its Shield TV Pro media player by 50 percent to $299.99, 9to5Google, VideoCardz, Tom's Hardware, TweakTown and eTeknix all reported. The digital media box originally launched seven years ago at $199.99. According to Tom's Hardware, the price hike is being driven by a global artificial intelligence memory shortage. [1][2][3][4][5]

The updated price applies to the same device that launched in 2019 without any hardware revisions, eTeknix, Tom's Hardware and VideoCardz reported. The device runs on the Android TV platform and acts as both a media player and a microconsole, a small home console designed to stream or download games. [1][2][5][6]

The Nvidia Shield TV brand first launched in May 2015. The system was designed to play local downloads as well as stream PC games over a local network or through the GeForce Now cloud gaming service. The Shield TV Pro model is differentiated from the base model by its higher internal storage capacity and support for 4K video playback. [6]
