Wizards of the Coast has declined to grant voluntary recognition to a union drive by its Dungeons & Dragons and Studio X teams, GamesIndustry.biz reported. Staff members will instead vote on joining the union through a secret-ballot election overseen by the National Labor Relations Board. [1]
The union, named United Wizards of the Coast-CWA, announced the company's decision on social media on Wednesday, October 14, according to GamesIndustry.biz. A spokesperson for Wizards of the Coast confirmed the decision, and an internal email was obtained by Wargamer. [1]
Labor organizing in the games industry has seen varied results recently. As FTMQ Gaming reported earlier, a separate unionization attempt at Double Fine Productions was abruptly withdrawn two weeks after filing in May 2026 due to eligibility questions and internal employee conflict. [7]
The upcoming vote will now proceed under the direction of the National Labor Relations Board to determine whether the Dungeons & Dragons and Studio X workers will be officially represented by the Communications Workers of America. [1]
