Wizards of the Coast designers have detailed new mechanics, storylines, and product structures for the upcoming Magic: The Gathering card expansion, Reality Fracture. According to reports from IGN and Kotaku, the expansion focuses on the planeswalker Jace Beleren, who attempts to rebuild reality following past traumas. The release marks a Universes Within card set following two consecutive Universes Beyond crossovers, IGN reported. [1][2]
The set introduces altered versions of iconic characters and spells in a scenario where Beleren reshapes the universe into how he believes it should be, according to IGN. Principal game designer Yoni Skolnik and worldbuilding design manager Meris Mullaley explained that the set features changes to Echoed Pairs packs and future Secret Lair product bundles. [1]
Unlike most major releases, Reality Fracture includes only one preconstructed deck for Commander, the game's most popular format, Kotaku reported. Game designer Gavin Verhey explained that the sole preconstructed Commander deck, titled Multiverse Reforged, highlights Beleren's story arc directly. [2]
Magic: The Gathering is a strategy trading card game first published by Wizards of the Coast in 1993. The game takes place within a shared fictional multiverse where underlying storylines are depicted on card artwork and flavor text, as well as through associated digital fiction and books. [6][7]
