The Netflix documentary series Drive to Survive inspired the development of Star Wars: Galactic Racer, according to reports from GamesIndustry.biz, WN Hub, GameDev.net and FanBuzz. Matt Webster, the head of developer Fuse Games, said the studio aimed to replicate the off-track intrigue and drama of the Formula 1 television show within the racing game. [1][3][4][5]
Webster told GamesIndustry.biz that the intrigue and excitement off the track is as compelling as the action on the track. Drive to Survive is a streaming documentary series that follows Formula 1 drivers across a championship season. Webster noted that the studio wanted to capture that off-track narrative depth for its own project. [1][8]
Star Wars: Galactic Racer is a racing video game with adventure elements published by Secret Mode. Set in the Star Wars fictional universe created by George Lucas, the game launched on October 6, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Windows and Xbox Series X/S. [6][7]
As FTMQ Gaming reported earlier, other Star Wars video game projects have seen major shifts in production. Epic Games delayed its planned Marvel and Star Wars shooter to transition the project to an AI-first development model that relies on generative software tools. [10][11]
