Grand Theft Auto 6 preorders near eight million units ahead of launch

Grand Theft Auto 6 has nearly reached eight million preorders two weeks ahead of its planned launch, GamesIndustry.biz and GameDev.net reported. Data from market research firm Sensor Tower shows 7.71 million preordered units, generating an estimated $751 million in gross revenue. FTMQ Gaming reported earlier that the game is scheduled to launch on November 19. [1][8][12]

Players on Sony Interactive Entertainment's PlayStation 5 console dominate the advance sales. According to GamesIndustry.biz and GameDev.net, the PlayStation 5 edition accounts for 74 percent of preorders, totaling $559 million. Microsoft's Xbox Series X and Series S consoles represent the remaining 26 percent of preorders, generating $192 million. [1][8]

The latest figures show steady growth since advance purchases opened. GamesIndustry.biz reported that tracking firm Newzoo estimated Grand Theft Auto 6 generated $260 million globally during its first week of preorders in July. Newzoo also projected a 17.5 percent increase in full game spending for the title. [1]

Developer Rockstar Games and parent publisher Take-Two Interactive have also released 39 new promotional screenshots showcasing gameplay, combat dogs and characters ahead of the launch, PC Gamer reported. [6][7]
