Modding platform Nexus Mods has updated its policies to make the disclosure of generative artificial intelligence mandatory for all uploads, as GamesRadar and VGC both reported. Creators must now detail exactly how artificial intelligence was used in their creations so players can decide whether to download them. Additionally, Neowin and GamesRadar reported that the site is introducing user controls to filter out machine-generated modifications. [1][2][5][6]

The platform ruled out an outright ban on artificial intelligence modifications despite backlash from its community, according to VGC and TechRaptor. In a blog post, Nexus Mods stated that artificial intelligence usage should be regulated through clear labels and platform rules while trying to balance the views of its divided user base. [1][2][4]

Nexus Mods is a web platform for hosting computer game modifications and user-created content. Founded in 2001 as Morrowind Chronicles, the site has grown to host more than 767,000 files and has registered over 67 million users. [8][9]

Disputes surrounding artificial intelligence in modification spaces have escalated recently. As FTMQ Gaming reported earlier, the creator of the SFO Grimhammer 3 modification for Total War: Warhammer 3 intentionally broke their project in October 2026 to protest unauthorized artificial intelligence repacks before later restoring it.
