The upcoming live-action Cyberpunk movie will tell an original story rather than directly adapting the plot of the 2020 role-playing video game Cyberpunk 2077. Speaking to Polish media outlet PAP Biznes, CD Projekt joint-chief executive officer Michał Nowakowski confirmed that the project will not be a direct one-to-one translation of the game's narrative. Destructoid, IGN, Polygon, and Rock Paper Shotgun all reported on the executive's statements. [2][3][5][6]

The film project is being developed in partnership between video game publisher CD Projekt Red and Hollywood studio Paramount Pictures, as FTMQ Gaming reported earlier. While the project remains set in the futuristic setting of Night City, the production team aims to explore a standalone narrative within the shared science-fiction universe rather than retreading the journey of the game protagonist V. Paramount Pictures and CD Projekt Red announced the live-action project, which is being produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura. [2][3][5][13]

CD Projekt Red was established in 2002 as the internal development arm of Polish video game company CD Projekt, which was founded in May 1994 by Marcin Iwiński and Michał Kiciński. Cyberpunk 2077 has sold over 40 million units worldwide since its launch in 2020. No director, casting details, or release window have been officially announced for the movie project. [9][11][13]
