Modder EgrLapko has released a new modification for The Witcher 3 Remastered on PC that adds true volumetric lighting, DSOGaming reported. The modification uses the shadows from the action role-playing game by developer CD Projekt Red to cast light through fog, creating visible sunbeams through arches, trees, bridges, and city streets while making shaded areas darker. [1][6]
According to DSOGaming, the modification can improve overall image quality for players who use Ray Tracing or Path Tracing graphics options. Volumetric lighting generates realistic light shafts and daylighting effects by interacting with atmospheric elements like fog. [1][5]
As FTMQ Gaming reported earlier, CD Projekt Red launched the updated remaster as a free upgrade for existing owners on PC and consoles, reaching a record peak of 137,724 concurrent players on Steam. The game was also made available on Nintendo Switch 2 as a free upgrade. [6][7]
CD Projekt Red is currently working on an official patch to fix ongoing performance issues in the remastered game, while a new expansion is scheduled for release in 2027. [6]
