Content creator Throaty Mumbo has modified an original 1985 Nintendo Entertainment System console into a functional retro personal computer. Dexerto and TweakTown both reported that the custom machine can run the classic first-person shooter game Doom, browse the web, and play DVDs. The project was revealed in a 55-minute video uploaded to YouTube. [1][2]
The custom build connects a keyboard and mouse directly to the hardware. Dexerto reported that the creator built the device after deciding to turn the iconic console into something resembling a computer from the 1990s. The Nintendo Entertainment System originally launched in North America in 1985 and was not designed for desktop computing operations. [1]
The modification highlights the long history of creators adapting classic Nintendo hardware and software, as FTMQ Gaming reported earlier. The original console software ecosystem includes major franchises spanning several generations, while individual video creators work within a platform host network that contained over 114 million channels by 2025.
